2011.092 "Purple Columbine"

It seems I have a number of friends and followers who really like the color purple.  Not my own my favorite color - as you all are well aware - but I admit it is very pretty. I think I admire the color most when I see it in nature.

Yesterday I went to our local botanical gardens with the princesses and Caleb (my 4 nieces and nephew). My expectations weren't high because it's still early spring here but I thought at least it would be a sunny day and we'd probably see some daffodils still hanging on and likely an abundance of tulips. I was spot-on about the tulips but had no idea there were so many exotic varieties.

I was also suprised to see many other flowers in full bloom. Pansies, some smaller vine-growing Roses, Iris and many different varieties of Columbine to name a few. One particular variety of Columbine really grabbed my attention. It was the deepest purple and so vivid I had to stop and stare and, of course, take a picture.

Today's piece is my little tribute to that breathtaking purple Columbine. I'll add the pic I took at the bottom so you can oooh and aaah along with me at it's beauty.

2011.091 "You're Not the [em]Boss of Me"

Ahhh fractals. I know some of you don't quite apprecite them in the same way I do but I find such joy in their complex construction yet simple appearance. It makes me think of...well...me! All of us really, it makes me think of how each of us is constructed in such a complex manner yet we appear so simple.

Have you ever actually stopped to consider the mechanics involved in your body's daily movements? It's staggering. Or, as my daughter Lori says, "it bottles the mind".

2011.090 "Watermelon Dream"

Sometimes a digipaint starts out completely different then it ends up and I always say the piece itself decided it wanted to go a different direction.

Today is one of those days. I started out with a jagged abstract and ended up with a soft impressionist-type piece in the end. The finished work makes me think of eating a slice of watermelon on a warm summer day with a blue sky overhead.

In Kansas today it's a bright sunny day...maybe I'll have some watermelon!

2011.089 "Impressionist Dream"

I challenged myself to learn more about the masters and the various artforms. I want to follow my own heart but I also want to understand the differences between different pieces. Another reason is to determine whether or not I have any stand-out favorites.

I like the small brush strokes and dreamy pastel colors of many impressionist paintings. I don't know if impressionism is a favorite though. It's hard to choose a favorite.

Today's piece is kind of inspired by the impressionist works I've been looking at lately. When I look at it I can imagine it being a magnified eye in a much larger work. The eye is full of wonder and dreamy, like a child.  So here it is.

Losing Steam and Passion

I am finding my passion for this blog project has been on a rapid decline. I really can't explain why it is so. I went from being extremely jazzed about doing this every day, to practically dreading it, to avoiding it altogether.

I think I can point to the day I shared "My Heart Burst Open" as the turning point and that leaves me wondering. Have I lost interest because I shared too much and now feel uncomfortably vulnerable? Or is it a coincidence and I'm just getting bored? I can't say for certain.

For now I am changing up the format. I am taking a break from attempting to produce one piece every day - and subsequently beating myself up when it doesn't happen. At least for now I am going to post things as they happen. That may be daily but it may not. I hope you all can understand and hang with me.

Blessings and Peace to You!

2011.087 "My Peacock Headdress"

Last summer I took my kids to the local zoo. We have an Asian farm area where the animals roam free for the kids to pet and feed. There's always at least one peacock roaming around. I've always wanted to see one of them get wound up and show their colors and finally last summer it happened. It was spectacular!

Today's piece is inspired by the absolutely breathtaking plumage of the peacock.

2011.086 "Flutter"

Butterfly kisses. If you have a child in your life you've probably had them and they are some of the sweetest moments in life. I have 4 young nieces, a stepdaughter and a son who love to give butterfly kisses. The little tickle of their eyelashes across my cheek makes me smile and always brings a tear of joy to my eyes.

Today's piece is inspired by butterfly kisses!
